New Organization of Construction Lawyers Created

A new not-for-profit corporation has been formed to serve the needs of Tennessee attorneys with practices related to the construction industry. The Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel, Inc. (TACC) was formed late last year by a group of attorneys from across the State who want to advance the exchange of practice knowledge and communications between construction lawyers.

Nashville attorney David N. Garst is serving as the association’s president. “There are many construction industry organizations in Tennessee, but none of them is dedicated to the lawyers serving the industry,” said Garst. “The Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel, Inc. was created specifically to get construction lawyers together to network, to provide advanced continuing legal education opportunities, and to provide a forum to share practice knowledge and ideas.”

The TACC has elected its first Executive Committee. The officers and directors are as follows:

President - David N. Garst of the Nashville office of Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop, P.C.
Vice President - Michael I. Less of the Memphis firm Less, Getz &
Lipman, PLLC
Secretary - Todd E. Panther of the Nashville firm Tune, Entrekin & White, P.C.
Treasurer - Robert H. Green of the Knoxville firm Kennerly, Montgomery & Finley, P.C.
Director - Gregory L. Cashion of the Nashville firm Smith & Cashion, PLC
Director - Joseph T. Getz of the Memphis firm Less, Getz & Lipman, PLLC
Director - R. Loy Waldrop, Jr. of the Knoxville office of Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop, P.C.
Chairman Emeritus - Don L. Smith of the Nashville firm Smith & Cashion, PLC
Education Chair - L. Wearen Hughes of the Nashville office of Bass, Berry & Sims, PLC

The TACC plans to host its first annual membership meeting, together with CLE sessions, in the fall of 2004. The organization is actively recruiting new members. All licensed attorneys in Tennessee with practices serving contractors, building material and equipment suppliers, architects, engineers, or building owners are invited to join. For more information or to receive a membership application, please contact the TACC at dgarst@lewisking.com or 615.259.1356.
